from September 19, 2025 to February 22, 2026 / Musée d'art et d'histoire de Meudon, France
The Musée d'art et d'histoire de Meudon and the Musée Sainte-Croix de Poitiers are teaming up for a double exhibition dedicated to the versatile artist Sarah Lipska in collaboration with Ewa Ziembińska, PhD, the chief curator of the Xawery Dunikowski Museum of Sculpture at the Królikarnia Palace – division of the National Museum in Warsaw.
Painter, sculptor, costume designer, set designer, and fashion designer, Lipska was an avant-garde figure in 1920s Paris. Trained in Warsaw and then settled in Paris, she collaborated with the Ballets Russes, worked with Paul Poiret, and dressed figures such as Helena Rubinstein and Antoine de Paris. Her work blends vibrant colors, refined forms, and bold materials, blending Central European tradition with modernity. Birds, a recurring feature in her creations, symbolize her artistic freedom. Her sets, clothing, and sculptures demonstrate a rare mastery of light, materials, and movement. Despite her success during her lifetime, no retrospective had yet been held in France. This exhibition, supported by the Polish Institute in Paris, aims to restore the rightful place of a major 20th-century artist.
