WOOD, CLAY. Sculpture Workshops for Adults
The Xawery Dunikowski Museum of Sculpture at the Królikarnia Palace cordially invites everyone willing to participate in four-day sculpture workshops that proceed in two editions
14th, 15th and 21st, 22nd Feburary 2015
10 am – 4 am
• CLAY SCULPTURE WORKSHOP – HUMAN FIGURE
hosts: Wanda Czełkowska and Tomasz Mróz
• WOODEN SCULPTURE WORKSHOP
host: Jarosław Hulbój
Xawery Dunikowski regarded the process of sculpture making as the creative activity the closest to perfection: “As a sculptor, I know what physical effort means, it's a major part of the sculptor's work. I know what toil and sweat and struggle with matter mean when it is meant to reach a higher sense of our existence on the planet. I know the vast potential inherent in these simple acts: mixing clay, carving in metal and stone, trimming wooden planks or binding with a metal wire – the potential to reach the noblest pinnacles of humanity.” Today, when you can do fine as a sculptor without a chisel in your hand, the act of creating a sculpture still appears as something fascinating.
Sculptors are required to demonstrate involvement, patience, keen eyesight, sensitive touch, extraordinary emotions and intellect, as well as physical strength. The process that allows a sculpture to materialise inevitably brings to mind organic qualities, dirt and physical toil. Yet, all these aspects are merely a part of the rich and multifaceted experience involved in the sculptural profession. We cordially invite you to profit from the opportunity to spend two February weekends in the historic Królikarnia palace and participate in sculpture workshops run by artists Wanda Czełkowska, Jarosław Hulbój and Tomasz Mróz. Under their wings, the workshop members will discover the secrets of artistic work with the most traditional sculptural materials: clay and wood.
The clay sculpture workshop concentrates on the human figure and involves portraying a posing model. The meeting follows the consecutive stages of creating a sculpture: sketch, structure, and finally – shaping the form. The wooden sculpture workshop is a chance to experience the potential, contact and creative work with the material. Depending on the sculptor's intention, wood can turn into abstract organic matter, a vehicle of philosophical thought, a substance of art. Our work with this dynamic medium will rely on specialist tools: carpenter's table, saws, mallets, and our own hands.
PLEASE NOTE: It is impossible to register to more than one workshop. Each path takes two weekends and culminates with a presentation of newly made sculptures.
