WORKSHOP | Before JPG and TIFF. Discover the Methods of Analogue Photography
Feel kindly invited to workshop for families with children between 5 and 12 years old. We focus on the forgotten methods of analogue photography
Sunday’s workshop concentrates on the work of one of the most active photographers of the 1920s and 1930s gathered in the exhibition „The Estate. Sculptures from the Collection of von Rose Family with Films and Photographs from the Archives of Zofia Chomętowska” to review the history of photography as a tool that allows people to preserve and store collective memories. As strange as it may appear nowadays, given the prominence of digital cameras, photography was not always digital – it used to rely on photosensitive film stock and photographic paper.
Paweł Kula will help us discover the rather forgotten magic of the physical and chemical properties of photographic materials and light. The workshop concentrates on the phenomena that lie at the foundation of photography: image projection and photosensitivity. Every participant will have a chance to draw a portrait with a camera lucida and unpack the phenomenon of after-view with the help of a special projector. What is more, the meeting features a presentation of anthotypes – an old-time method of making photographs with the use of plant pigments – and offer an opportunity to create anthotypes with beetroot juice. The workshop culminates with making a simple luxograph (a type of photogram) with the use of traditional photographic paper and sunlight.
