Stanisław Ignacy Witkiewicz opens his eyes wide in metaphysical astonishment at existence. Why me, why here, and why now? Witold Gombrowicz rejects astonishment in favour of fascination with the way humans shape humans. A social convention emerges in its liquid form. Grzegorz Kowalski separates own space from private space in an exploration of another person, or even the Other. A palm rises above Warsaw’s Charles de Gaulle Roundabout, black squares loom from Dudziarska St., and a sequence of rainbows perish in flames soon afterwards. Our loaf of daily bread has split in half and a large jug of milk is broken – says a local poet. Is Me the same as You? Does Us mean the same as Them?
The black and white highly contrasting objects that will appear in the sculpture park of the Królikarnia Palace appear as see-saws but have double-sided mirrors in the centre. The four components of the project “Cooperation” represent the kind of sculpture that allows viewers to become active participants. Two people are required to operate the work by sitting opposite one another and maintaining balance. Each person sees their own reflection where they would normally see their partner, a situation that brings joy and strong emotions. Unable to see the person we interact with, we follow the rhythm of our own mirror reflection.
Change of Traffic Movement (Zmiana Organizacji Ruchu) – artistic project founded by: Alicja Łukasiak and Grzegorz Drozd. Their initiative opens up to collective activity in order to achieve a direct impact on the environments they collaborate with. Łukasiak and Drozd experiment with creating an active space, a territory that supports art practice in all its dimensions.
