Królikarnia presents works by Czech artist Eva Koťátková and Ukrainian artist, Maria Kulikovska from the Art Collection Telekom - the guest of honor Warsaw Gallery Weekend 2016. The collection, initiated by Deutsche Telekom in 2010, aims to collect contemporary art from Eastern Europe and capture artistic tendencies in different areas. Two creative attitudes – Koťátková’s and Kulikovska’s - on the one hand, many divides, and on the other they are excellent examples that emphasize the diversity of expression of contemporary European artists.
The work "Homo Bulla" by Maria Kulikovska(b. 1988) consists of three sculptures made of soap - the artist's body casts, and refers to the old Latin saying, comparing human existence to bubble. In 2012 Kulikovska made a similar series of translucent figures which were installed on the former factory of insulation materials in Donetsk in Ukraine. Abandoned buildings were then over taken by Izolyatsia Foundation, which promotes contemporary art for the rich in heavy industry area of eastern Ukraine and is now operating in Kiev. When in June 2014 militia took power in the self-proclaimed Donetsk People's Republic, the majority of works of art and buildings were destroyed, including an outdoor sculpture by Kulikovska used as shooting targets. In 2015, the Saatchi Gallery in London showcased the newly produced work "Homo Bulla". During the exhibition the artist has conducted aggressive action on their own sculpture - treating it with a hammer.
Koťátková’s (b. 1982) "Educational Model" is a set of tables and chairs where visitors can sit back and relax within the exhibition. This work invites you to a socio-psychological game between the peaks and plains, domination and dependence, community and private. In the form of fun Koťátková shows what determines the position of the psycho-social unit formed by education. Sport gives you the space to reflect on your own place in the competition of social hierarchies.
The exhibition in Królikarnia is the result of the established partnership between T-Mobile Poland and Warsaw Gallery Weekend, and an announcement of a larger presentation of works from the collection Art Collection Telekom, which is scheduled in September and October 2017 year.
